Cristina A Schumacher
Cristina A Schumacher is a word expert. She has published more than 30 books on foreign language learning, most of which address and facilitate the English learning process for Brazilian speakers of Portuguese. Cristina’s best-seller Inglês Urgente para Brasileiros (1999) has revolutionised the publication of English learning materials in Brazil, blazing the trail for the wide range of language self-learning books that are ubiquitous in the country today.
With Grupo GEN, Brazil’s largest publishing house for technical and scientific books, Cristina launched Uma Gramática Intuitiva: liberte-se das regras e tome posse da língua que você fala, EPU (2013) – An Intuitive Grammar – Free yourself from rules and take possession of the language you speak. She is Grupo GEN’s consultant for language materials as well as for Portuguese as a Foreign Language and has authoured many of its titles in the area.
Cristina’s consulting business focuses on language awareness. Her distinctive type of language instruction – connectation – builds language knowledge through the awareness of words as tools for development and change. Cristina is a fluent speaker of English, French, Spanish and German and has studied several other language systems. She is also an experienced translator and evaluator. With her concept of Word Management, she has demonstrates that words do much more than communicate in a transforming way.
Cristina is currently pursuing a Master’s Programme in Applied Linguistics at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.
